Executive Editor of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Surya Chandra Basnet, has been honored with 'Rashtriya Nagarik Samman-2079'. Basnet has been active in Nepali journalism sector since the past three decades.
At a programme organized on the occasion of 38th anniversary of National Press Club, Nepal, here on Wednesday, former Vice-President Paramananda Jha honored 42 persons including Basnet for their contribution in different sectors of the society.
Former minister, litterateur and social worker, Bhadra Kumari Ghale, singer and media person, Krishna Kandel, social workers—Padam Upreti and Lok Bahadur Tandan, were also honored on the occasion.
On the occasion, former Vice-President Jha laid emphasis on the need of respecting human rights by realizing full press freedom.
Saying specially issues of world peace, press freedom and human rights should be discussed, he added, "Such issues should get continuous attention and it is necessary to take such issues among the people."
Similarly, former Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Bidya Sundar Shakya, expressed the view that the government should focus its attention on development of religious tourism in the country.
