Wages increase for Nepalese workers in Malaysia

Wages of workers in Malaysia have been increased. On May 1, World Labor Day, new rules regarding wage increases have been implemented. Millions of Nepali workers working in Malaysia will also benefit from the government's decision to increase wages.

On the weekly Facebook Live program of the Nepalese Embassy in Malaysia, a representative of the embassy, ​​Prakash Panthi, informed that the basic salary of workers has been fixed at 1500 Malaysian ringgit with effect from May.

The Minister of Human Resources of Malaysia has also informed about the increase in the salary of the workers.


Although there has been talk of increasing the wages of workers in Malaysia for some time now, Malaysia has not made public its official position on the issue. Nepali workers were also inquiring about this at the embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

If a worker does not receive the amount as per the basic salary increase, the Malaysian government can also be complained to directly through the app created by the Ministry of Human Resources.

Officials of the Nepali Embassy have also informed that the workers living illegally in Malaysia have to return within the next 30 days even after the expiration of the visa. They said that there could be many problems in staying in Malaysia illegally after that.


Suggesting to return immediately to avoid that problem, the embassy official said that the embassy would assist in preparing the necessary documents for that. In this way, the embassy will provide necessary assistance to the workers returning to Nepal to prepare travel documents. Thus, on returning to Nepal, one will have to pay a fine of 500 ringgit as specified by the Malaysian government at the airport in Malaysia.

According to the embassy, ​​there is a growing demand for Nepali workersto come to Malaysia. The process of bringing in new workers has already started. Demand verification has been done by the Nepali Embassy.

 Malaysia's border has been opened. Workers continue to come from Nepal.


For workers going to work in Malaysia, there is a general rule of granting a visa for 10 years. The company a worker is associated with has to make an effort to apply for a visa for more than 10 years.
