A recent meeting of the Malaysian Council of Ministers has decided on increasing the salary of workers.
Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yakub announced at a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur that the basic salary of workers across Malaysia would be raised to 1,500 Malaysian ringgits. He also said that from now on, there would be a minimum of five workers in private sector companies in Malaysia. He made it clear that the Malaysian government was aware of the rising cost of living.
However, Nepali workers working in Malaysia are in a dilemma whether the new system would be applicable to all companies in Malaysia or not. Earlier, the minimum wage for workers was 1,200 ringgits. However, the workers are getting even lower wages.
A Nepali worker working in Malaysia has informed NepalNews that his basic salary is still 1,050 ringgits. Similarly, another Nepali worker asked where to contact as his basic salary is only 1000 ringgits.
Now, thousands of Nepalis working in Malaysia will also benefit from the salary increase system. The Nepali Embassy in Malaysia is also making efforts for its implementation. The Second Secretary of the Embassy, Prem Bahadur Budhathapa, informed in the weekly Facebook Live conducted by the embassy that the embassy has now started the process accordingly by attesting demand for various jobs in Malaysia.
Re-entry for workers will be opened in Malaysia from April 1. New workers were barred from coming to Malaysia as the COVID outbreak escalated.
Workers working in Malaysia can get a work permit in Malaysia again. For this, there is an arrangement to upload and send the required documents including ID and passport obtained from the labor permit first.
It was complained that Nepal's agents and manpower companies were charging Rs. 2 lakh and 28 thousand.
In the same program, when asked what should be done to get married in Malaysia, the official of the Nepali Embassy said that if a Nepali man and woman get married in Malaysia, the marriage can be registered in the concerned village or municipality of Nepal. However, there is an arrangement between Nepali and foreign nationals to get married in court in Malaysia.
