The counting of votes for the local-level elections held last Friday is still going on. But amid growing complaints of delays in announcing the results, the Election Commission (EC) has demanded details of staff who were negligent in the voting and counting process.

According to the spokesperson of the Election Commission, Shaligram Sharma Poudel, the Election Commission has directed the Chief Electoral Officers and the Election Officers to send the details of the erroneous polling officers and the staff involved in the election.

The statement declares that the name, address, post, symbol number, and office of such employees, and the name and address of the assigned polling station should be disclosed.

The Election Commission has also demanded the names of those who give ballot papers with errors including missing signatures, half-cuts, usage of ink instead of stamp pads, and lack of correct details of ballot papers and voters.

Similarly, a rubber swastik stamp should be given on the ballot paper to indicate the vote.

A press release issued by the Election Commission states that serious mistakes have been made in the counting of votes and the number entered into the computer.

Employees of various bodies of the Government of Nepal are currently working for the local level election and vote counting.
