NC votes being counted, Deuba in lead

According to the results of the election held on Monday under the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress, the Prime Minister and the current president of the party Sher Bahadur Deuba is in the lead.

According to the party's Central Election Committee, Prime Minister Deuba has been taking the lead in the counting of votes in the National Assembly from the very beginning. During the counting of 2,667 votes in the morning, Chairman Deuba got 1,265 votes, Dr. Shekhar Koirala got 983 votes, Prakash Man Singh got 203 votes, Vimalendra Nidhi got 160 votes and Kalyan Gurung got 14 votes.

A total of 4,679 out of 4,743 voters had cast their votes in the polling held from Monday morning till night. The counting of votes has been started after completing the necessary process including sealing of ballot boxes, preparation of seals, preparation of code of conduct for counting of votes.

According to the Congress legislation, it will be mandatory to get more than 50 percent of the votes cast for the election. If for the first time any candidate does not get more than 50 percent of the votes, re-voting will be held between the two candidates who get the most votes. In re-polling, the candidate who gets the most votes will win. But if there are only two candidates for the first time, the candidate who gets more votes will win.

Voting was held for 132 posts including office bearers and members of the Congress Central Working Committee. The counting of votes for other posts will be done at the party's central office after the counting of votes for the post of chairman.
