BIRGUNJ: The curfew enforced by local authorities in Birgunj, Parsa since Saturday evening will remain in place until midnight tonight.
An all-party meeting held today at the District Administration Office assessed the current situation and decided to extend the curfew. The meeting included participation from political party representatives, civil society members, elected officials, and security personnel.
Administrative Officer Deepak Patel confirmed that lifting the curfew is not yet under consideration. The meeting also addressed the incident that occurred in Birgunj on Saturday evening and urged the public to uphold religious harmony.
Since Sunday morning, security forces have been heavily deployed throughout Birgunj, with no demonstrations, crowds, or public gatherings reported in the restricted zones.
The local administration has cautioned the public against falling for misleading videos circulating on social media. In a statement released today, the District Administration Office expressed serious concern over these online materials.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Kishor Lamsal, spokesperson for the District Police Office in Parsa, reported that 40 individuals were arrested from various locations starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday for violating the curfew. He added that the situation in Birgunj is gradually stabilizing, with security personnel continuing to patrol the areas under curfew.
