KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has issued a public notice urging banks and financial institutions (BFIs) to make provisions for opening accounts using national identity cards.
This follows an earlier directive from the central bank through its unified guidelines.
To enhance accessibility to national identity cards, the National Identity Card and Registration Department has facilitated their issuance via District Administration Offices nationwide.
Moreover, the notice highlights that temporary camps are being set up in addition to the District Administration Offices in the Kathmandu Valley to provide identity cards.
The Department has also launched an online portal where individuals can verify their national identity card number and check the status of their application.
In its notice, NRB emphasized that all banks and financial institutions are required to assist customers in opening bank accounts by confirming their national identity card details through the Department’s portal.
