Elections preparations intensify in far west

Preparations for the local elections have been intensified in the far western states including Doti. The Provincial Election Office and the District Election Office have intensified the preparations for the local level election to be held on April 13. 

At present, the necessary materials for the election are being delivered to the polling stations, said Prem Raj Bhatta, Acting Chief of the Provincial Election Office. A total of 3,846 people's representatives will be elected from the election for 734 ward chairpersons and 2,936 ward members including 88 local level chiefs and deputy chiefs in the state. 

In the far west, Kailali and Kanchanpur have the highest number of voters and polling stations. Apart from security personnel, 4,000 more personnel will be deployed in 619 polling stations in 13 municipalities of Kailali. More than 1,800 employees will be deployed in 341 polling stations of 9 municipalities in Kanchanpur. In the Far West, 1,632,150 voters will be able to exercise their voting right in local elections this year. Of these, 831,470 are women, 8,662 are men and 18 are transgender. 

Similarly, monitoring and inspection of polling stations at nine local levels of Doti has been completed, said Chief District Officer Shankar Bahadur Bista. He said, "We have already inspected and monitored the polling station at stage one. We are preparing for another inspection." 

The number of security personnel to be deployed at each polling station is being discussed, said Prajia Bista. Political parties have recently started reaching out to villages targeting local level election in Doti. With the announcement of the date of the election, major political parties including Congress, UML, CPN (Unified Socialist), Maoist Center have intensified the programs of party cadres, party meetings, training and meetings. There are 124,014 voters in Doti, said Dal Bahadur Malasi, Information Officer of the District Election Office.
