A joint meeting of leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN-Unified Socialist, Rastriya Janamorcha Party and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) held in Beni on Thursday decided to field joint candidates in all the six local levels of Myagdi.
The meeting was chaired by Congress Myagdi president Kham Bahadur Garbuja (Khambir). On behalf of the five-party mechanism, Maoist Center District Coordinator Resham Jugjali, CPN-U Socialist Chairman Krishna Kumar Bishwakarma, Rastriya Janamorcha District Chairman Chhabi Bishwakarma and Janata Samajwadi Chairman Devendra Bahadur Bishwakarma were present.
Earlier, in the first meeting, a five-party mechanism formed under the convenorship of Nepali Congress President Garbuja had decided to assess the strength of all the parties from the ward level and collect the estimated votes. Congress secretary Pun said that the decision would be taken on the basis of the methodology to be formulated by the central mechanism by focusing and analyzing the details collected by all the parties from the wards and municipalities.
"It remains to be decided which party will field which candidate in which municipality," he said. District and municipality level mechanisms have been expanded to coordinate the election.
In the 2017 election, the Nepali Congress candidates had won the posts for Beni municipality chief and three village chairpersons, two village vice chairpersons and 15 ward chairpersons. The Maoist center had won in seven wards. UML had won the posts of two village chairpersons, three village vice chairpersons and 23 ward chairpersons.
Congress and UCPN (M) had coordinated in Beni Municipality, Mangala and Dhawalagiri. In Raghuganga, UML and Maoists had coordinated, in Beni, UML and RPP had coordinated, while in Malika and Annapurna, there was no coordination.
