Watercolour festival begins today

A five-day International Watercolor Festival is starting today in Kathmandu.

A total of 340 artworks from 39 countries are being exhibited in the festival. Domestic and foreign artists including 30 foreign artists and more than 150 artists from Nepal are taking part in the festival.

The 30 artists are from Britain, Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Austria and other countries, Program coordinator NB Gurung said.

The festival organized by International Watercolor Society (IWS) Nepal will run until December 6 at the Nepal Art Council Babarmahal.

As part of the watercolor festival, which is estimated to cost around Rs 1.4 million, art workshops will be held in the heritage areas of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur. Artists will be taken to Nagarkot to watch and create art of the sunrise and sunset.

While promoting the artistic identity of Nepal, the festival is also expected to help in tourism promotion.
