World Press Freedom Day with the slogan 'Technology Controlled Journalism'

World Press Freedom Day is celebrated today with the slogan 'Technology Controlled Journalism'. On the occasion of the day, tributes have been paid to the journalists who passed away while working for freedom of press and expression. On the occasion of the day, the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has organized an interaction program to make the report on press and freedom of expression public and photo exhibition.

 Speaking at a program organized here today, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission Tap Bahadur Magar said that freedom of press was the protector of human rights and added that everyone should pay attention to the policy and professional security of journalists. He said that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has been drawing the attention of the government from time to time for the protection of journalists.

FNCCI President Bipul Pokharel said that no matter which political party joins the government, it is not in a position to be confident on the issue of press freedom. He said that freedom of press would raise the voice of all sections of the society and urged the state to abide by the constitution on the issue of freedom of press.

Director General of the Department of Information and Broadcasting Gogan Bahadur Hamal said that the press would affect all the organs of the state and it should play a role in motivating the government and the people in a positive direction. Stating that the number of non-journalists is increasing in the field of journalism, he said that it is important for the concerned bodies to pay attention to it.

 Former FNCCI President Taranath Dahal said that the importance of Press Freedom Day has increased as the character of the state controlling press freedom is still maintained today. Another former president, Dharmendra Jha, said that there was a need for all journalists to use their editorial freedom without any hindrance even today. Former Chairman Dr. Mahendra Bista said that impunity was still prevailing in the violence against journalists and freedom of press activists and added that the government should pay attention to it. FNCCI Senior Vice President Ramesh Bista and General Secretary Roshan Puri stressed on the need for the concerned bodies to address the problems of working journalists.
