Encouragement to increase of women in adventure

Concerned persons have expressed the view that Nepal government should give proper encouragement to increase the participation of women in adventure tourism. At the “Nepali Women on Top of the World” Symposium held in Kathmandu on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Nepal's first female Nepali Everest climber Pasanglhamu Sherpa, various speakers said that although the number of women in mountaineering is increasing compared to the past, they need more encouragement.

The symposium was organized by Pasanglhamu Foundation and Alex Lowe Foundation.

 Speaking as a speaker in the program, Dawa Yangjum Sherpa, a mountaineer who has climbed 12 mountains higher than 8,000 meters in the world, said that she climbed Everest at the age of 21 after being influenced by the first Nepali female Everest climber, the late Pasanglhamu Sherpa. She said that she encouraged new women to enter the field of adventure tourism.

Conrad Anker, president of the Alex Lowai Foundation, who has been involved in the mountaineering field for a long time and has climbed various mountains, informed that he emphasized on increasing the participation of women in the climbing training conducted through the Khumbu Climbing Club.

In the program, the Chairperson of Pasanglhamu Foundation, Dawafuti Sherpa, informed that the foundation is conducting various activities to increase the participation of women in the field of mountaineering.

Nimanuru Sherpa, the president of Nepal Mountaineering Association, informed that women have been emphasizing on the participation in various trainings conducted by the Mountaineering Association and that Nepali women have also climbed the Seven Summits.

 Nawangnima Sherpa, a member of the Nepal Tourism Board, informed that the board is ready to help climb the remaining 2 mountains of Dawa Yangjung.
