Since the blockade at the southern borders which began on September 23, 2015 and lasted for nearly six months, cycling has gained popularity in Nepal. With petroleum products in acute shortage bicycles offered a sense of respite. Most of the people who had never thought of buying a cycle started doing so. Moreover, previously only a few cycling aficionados and cycle vendors used to utilize the so-called poor man's means of commute. However, people in Nepal are gradually taking up cycling be it for adventure or hobby or some practical reason. And at present too with vehicular movement being curtailed due to the prohibitory order cycles have come to the rescue of many people.
