Nepal reports 315 new COVID cases, 2 deaths on Tuesday

Nationwide COVID tally hits 823,102; death toll reaches 11,545

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Monday confirmed the detection of 315 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 823,102. Additionally, 27 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the MoHP has recorded two deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. As of Tuesday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 11,545. Presently, there are 6,352 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 122 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 82 cases, Lalitpur logged 31 cases and Bhaktapur logged 9 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 304 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Tuesday, a total of 805,205 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 97.8 percent while the fatality rate is 1.4 percent.

Earlier, the MoHP Monday had reported 238 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 822,830.

As of Tuesday, a total of 4,679,180 people have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 6,013 people staying in isolation while 339 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

Meanwhile, 3,454,499 people have been administered the first dose of Covishield vaccines and 2,108,060 have been vaccinated with the booster dose. Likewise, 6,996,429 people have been vaccinated with the first dose of the Vero Cell vaccine while 5,092,782 others have received the second dose as of December 7, 2021, the Ministry's data showed. Likewise, a total of 53,836 persons — 5,969 in Province 1; 6,871 in Province 2; 26,416 in Bagmati Province; 3,391 in Gandaki Province; 5,300 in Lumbini Province, 2,187 in Karnali Province, and 3,702 in Sudurpaschim Province — have been vaccinated with Pfizer vaccines. Meanwhile, 1,579,591 citizens have been inoculated with Janssen and Janssen vaccines across the country.

More than 266.73 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 5,550,000 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in 2019-December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in several countries where The United States is the new hotspot of COVID-19 facing a daily surge of rapid infections.

Meanwhile, the Omicron variant of coronavirus has been found in Nepal too. The Ministry of Health and Population held a press conference here today in the presence of Health Minister Birodh Khatiwada.
