The Presidential Women's Upliftment Program of the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens has become effective in the Khotang district. In this district where there is no efficient road transportation, the program has proved to be effective after free air rescue and treatment of pregnant and maternity patients.

According to Vikal Shrestha, Information Officer at the District Administration Office, 23 pregnant women have been rescued so far in the district. In case of risk of death of both the mother and the child during delivery, the administration has started the process for air rescue on the recommendation of the district hospital.

If risks are found such as prolonged labor pains, difficulty in childbirth, stillbirth, excessive bleeding during pregnancy, anemia, excessive bleeding during delivery at a birthing center, various tremors, death of both mother and baby, then the helicopters are called in. Chief of the district hospital, Dr. Baibhav Mallik, said that pregnant, lactating women and newborns of the district did not have to die prematurely after the free air rescue service program was implemented.

The rescued pregnant women are taken to Thapathali Maternity Hospital or Koshi Hospital, Biratnagar. The helicopters had failed to rescue two women from Majhuwagadhi Municipality earlier due to bad weather.

According to the administration, both the women who could not be rescued were successfully treated at the district hospital. The helicopter that rescued one of them could not take off due to bad weather and returned after a day.
