Police in Kanchanpur district arrested an absconding rape convict after seven months, on Friday.
The arrested has been identified as Bishnu Rana of Krishnapur Municipality-9 in the district.
Kanchanpur District Court had convicted Rana in a rape case and slapped him for one year in prison along with a fine of Rs 100,000 around mid-November last year, according to the chief at Kanchanpur District Police Office (DPO), Superintendent of Police (SP)Uma Prasad Chaturvedi.
Meanwhile, Rana who had been on the run and hiding around his residence after absconding from the police custody was presented before the court for prosecution. Subsequently, the court has ordered to prosecute as per the previous decision.
It has been reported that police in the district have intensified the search for many other convicts who have been at large.
