KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has asserted that the most fitting tribute to the martyrs is to progress towards fulfilling the aspirations of development and prosperity.
In his message on the occasion of Martyrs Day today, the President emphasized that honoring the martyrs means working towards sustainable peace, good governance, development, and prosperity, all of which are achievable through the federal democratic republic established through their sacrifices.
The President expressed his conviction that Martyrs Day will inspire everyone to contribute sincerely towards realizing the martyrs’ dreams while paying respect to their sacrifices.
“On Martyrs Day 2081 BS, I offer my heartfelt tribute to all known and unknown martyrs, including the great martyrs Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand, and Gangalal Shrestha, who gave their lives to secure civic freedom, democracy, and safeguard our nation,” he stated.
President Paudel reminded that Martyrs Day is a special occasion to remember the brave individuals who gave their lives for the country.
Observed annually on Magh 16, the day honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the democratic revolution and movements against the Rana regime, the Panchayat system, and the monarchy, fighting for the sovereignty of the Nepali people.
“To lay down one’s life for the welfare of the nation and its people is the essence of martyrdom. Let this day motivate all political parties, the general public, and all concerned to dedicate their hearts, words, and actions to fulfilling the aspirations of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence of our nation and people,” President Paudel stated.
