Both genders responsible to ensure justice and rights to women: PM Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that the constitutional and historical achievements were made on gender equality and women participation after the historical Peoples’ Movement-2062/63 BS.

Addressing a programme organized on Women Rights Day on Sunday, Prime Minister Oli reminded that President Bidya Devi Bhandari as the then parliamentarian had tabled resolution motion for 33 per cent women participation in state bodies uniting all women and was passed unanimously.

The day was a happy moment to all and the resolution motion mentioned that getting citizenship certificate from mother’s identity and law enactment to end domestic violence against women.

He said that the day should be remembered with specialty as it had achieved social awareness, constitutional and legal remedies in the field of women rights.

PM Oli added that the 33 per cent women’s participation in each organ is getting materialized as the federal parliament has 33 percent of women’s representation, province has more than that and local levels have 41 percent women’s participation.

He argued that some people were not with the changes seen in the field of women rights due to their feudalistic thoughts. The PM also recalled that President Bhandari had collected signatures to ensure 20 per cent women participation in CPN (UML)’s General Convention held in 2052 BS in Janakpur.

On another note, PM Oli who is also the Chairman of the CPN (UML) argued that the new election was announced as the House failed to form an alternative government. He added that different irregularities and activities against the party disciplines were seen in the House.

He opined that both the male and female should be responsible to ensure justice and rights to women.

The government is marking this day for past three years in recognition of passing of four important resolution motions on women rights on 2063 Jestha 16.
