The National Examinations Board (NEB) has prepared to hold the examinations of class XII from the second week of August.

The board started making preparations for the examinations of class XII after the COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) affirmed to grant permission for the same, according to Prof Chandra Mani Paudel, Chairman of the NEB.

Previously, the NEB had written to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology asking for permission to hold examinations in the physical presence of students in classes about two weeks ago.

Prof Paudel informed that the Education Ministry had submitted the letter from the NEB to the CCMC which agreed to grant the permission. However, the NEB has yet to receive a copy of the permission letter dispatched by the CCMC. He confirmed that the board's meeting after receiving the permission letter will decide upon the examination centres and schedules.

Earlier, the examinations of class XII scheduled to take place from June 9 had been cancelled following the surge of coronavirus cases amid the second wave of the COVID-19 across the country.

The NEB has asserted that the examinations of class XII will have 100 full marks for each subject citing that the previous assessment method of examinations was not effective.

Last year the NEB had held examinations of class XII for the evaluation of 40 per cent marks; another 40 per cent was assessed based on the scores the students had secured from class XI and 20 per cent marks were assessed through the internal evaluation conducted by the educational institutions the students belonged to. The NEB had held examinations in 4,105 centres across the country.

According to the NEB, there are a total of 386,000 candidates for the class XII examinations this year.
