The CPN Maoist Centre has withdrawn its support to the KP Sharma Oli-led government. The party has submitted the letter of withdrawal of support at the Federal Parliament Secretariat today.
Chief Whip of CPN Maoist Centre Dev Prasad Gurung submitted the letter to the General Secretary of the Federal Parliament Secretariat. Parliamentarians including CPN Maoist Centre Parliamentary Party leader and Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ were present on the occasion.
The letter signed by Chair Dahal reads, “As per the decision of CPN Maoist Centr Parliamentary Party, the support lent to KP Sharma Oli has been withdrawn to be effective from today.”
The CPN Maoist Centre had supported the Parliamentary Party leader of the CPN UML, KP Sharma Oli, in February 2018.
The Nepal Communist Party was forged after the merger between the CPN UML and CPN Maoist Centre on May 17, 2018. The Supreme Court decision on March 7, 2021, had shattered the unity between the two parties.
Though the CPN Maoist Centre had been reiterating that there was no support of the party to KP Sharma Oli-led government after Supreme Court’s decision, the party had not formally withdrawn its support.
With the CPN Maoist Centre's decision of formally withdrawing its support to the incumbent government, Prime Minister Oli-led government is in minority.
