MoHP reports 220 new COVID cases, 1 death on Monday

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Monday confirmed the detection of 220 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 825,954. Additionally, 2 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the MoHP has recorded one death from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The ministry on May 19 recorded 184 deaths, the highest daily number. As of Monday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 11,574. Presently, there are 2,225 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 129 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 89 cases, Lalitpur logged 33 cases and Bhaktapur logged 7 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 263 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Monday, a total of 809,155 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 97.9 percent while the fatality rate is 1.4 percent.

Earlier, the MoHP Sunday had reported 133 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 825,736.

As of Monday, a total of 4,771,758 people have undergone the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 4,964 people staying in isolation while 94 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

More than 275.017 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 5,370,460 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in 2019-December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 61 countries where The United States is the new hotspot of COVID-19 facing a daily surge of rapid infections.
