Nepal reports 3,024 new COVID cases, 99 deaths on Sunday

Nationwide COVID tally hits 588,124; death toll reaches 7,898

Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Sunday reported 3,024 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 588,124. Additionally, 455 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the Health Ministry has recorded 99 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The ministry on May 19 recorded 246 deaths, the highest daily number. As of Sunday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 7,898. Presently, there are 89,217 active cases in Nepal.

According to the Health Ministry, 13,733 total tests were carried out in the last 24 hours of which 10,471 were RT-PCR tests while 3262 were antigen tests.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 1,131 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 731 cases, Lalitpur logged 254 cases and Bhaktapur logged 146 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 6,636 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Sunday, a total of 491,009 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 83.5 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP on Saturday had reported 3,540 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 585,100.

As of Sunday, a total of 3,143,062 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 89,217 persons staying in isolation while 731 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

More than 172.48 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 3,856,556 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in December-2019, a Reuters tally showed as of 02:12 am, on Sunday, June 6, 2021.

The World Health Organisation referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
