Driga Narayan Pandey, the Nepali Congress candidate, has won the by-election to the vacant seat of the National Assembly of Lumbini Province. Pandey also had the support of CPN Maoist Centre, Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal and Rastriya Janamorcha.
The other candidate of the by-election was Chandra Bahadur Khadka of the CPN UML.
Pandey received 42 votes through the National Assembly and 118 through the local levels. Meanwhile, Khadka received 40 votes through the National Assembly and 94 through the local levels.
The seat in the National Assembly of Lumbini Province had fallen vacant as Khadka from Arghakhanchi, who had won the election as a candidate of the CPN (Maoist Centre), switched his allegiance to CPN UML. The CPN (Maoist Centre) had then revoked Khadka’s membership during a disciplinary hearing of the party.
