Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is going to address the nation today. According to Surya Thapa, Press Advisor to the Prime Minister, PM Oli will address the nation at 4 pm from the Office of prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singhadurbar.
The address will be telecast live on Nepal Television. The government will be announcing the budget for next fiscal year on Saturday.
In the past few weeks there have been various political developments in the country. PM Oli lost the vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on May 10. Of the 232 parliamentarians who had cast their votes, 93 votes were in support of the prime minister and 124 votes against while 15 other votes cast did not support the proposal of vote of confidence.
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba did try to form an alternate government with support from the opposition parties but President Bidhya Devi Bhandari rejected his and PM Oli’s claims citing that they did not hold sufficient ground to prove that they would win the support of the parliamentarians.
The president then on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers dissolved the House of Representatives and announced the dates for mid-term elections. The constitutional bench of the Supreme Court is today hearing the writ petitions filed against the president’s move.
