Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has said that populist politics will harm the country.
Releasing a book 'Sayeremma— Rastrabad Ki Rastraprem (Nationalism or Patriotism) by Laos Kumar Rai here Thursday, Dr Koirala said both nation and nationality will suffer if the politicians try to establish themselves by practising populist politics. He argued that nationality will be robust if we maintain a single thought and ideology for nation's welfare adding that shortsightedness will not promote nationality.
On the occasion, the NC leader said that those having faith on democracy should embrace the policy of zero-tolerance against corruption.
Likewise, he expressed his concern over the trend of brain-drain taking place in the name of higher education.
Also speaking at the programme, former Defence Minister Bhimsen Das Pradhan, NC leader Gururaj Ghimire and political analyst Dr Lal Babu Yadav expressed their views on the book while praising Rai's text on nationalism, democracy and politics.
Writer of the book, Rai said that fusion of citizens, leadership, economy and security come under the framework of nationalism.
