The Election Commission has set up and brought into operation the Press Office at its Secretariat at Bahadur Bhawan in view of the House of Representatives and Province Assembly election scheduled for November 20.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya inaugurated the Office today. On the occasion, he said that a mechanism including experts has been prepared for the prompt dissemination of the Commission's activities and information.

CEC Thapaliya urged the mass media to extend support in conducting the election in a free, fair, independent and impartial manner keeping in mind self-regulation and self-censorship.

"The Press Office has been brought into operation for the effective dissemination of the election-related information sought by the media. Besides, the Office will also produce and disseminate voter education-related materials using simple language comprehensible to the layman," he added.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that the EC is clear that the Press Council Nepal will be carrying out the monitoring of the media which it had been already doing before this.

"The representatives of the government bodies concerned have been kept at the Press Office as contact person to make the works these bodies have been otherwise carrying out effective during the time of election towards checking the misinformation, disinformation and hate-speech that might be there through the social sites and for minimizing the challenges of cyber security during the election period," CEC Thapaliya said.
