Protection of culture a common responsibility: PM Deuba

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has viewed the unity among diverse cultures and traditions helps foster national unity. PM Deuba said it during a program organized at Basantapur Durbar Square on the occasion of the 18th National Jyapu Day on Sunday.

He stressed the need for preserving and keeping alive Nepal's original traditions and cultures. Nepal's diversity is exemplary in the world in terms of geography, nature, culture, and social fabrics. The coexistence and tolerance among multiple ethnicities and lingual communities must be kept intact, PM Deuba stressed.

The festival-like Jyapu Day plays a significant role to maintain religious tolerance and harmony in the country, he observed and pledged assistance from the government side to preserve the Jyapu culture.

PM Deuba further said Jyapu society has its own unique culture, heritage, and identity. It has made its special position within Newari community, thanks to its unique art, culture, and skills, he mentioned.

Likewise, Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Rajendra Prasad Shrestha said that the Jyapur community’s unique culture has a crucial contribution to promoting Nepal’s identity across the globe.

Also speaking at the event, NC leader Prakash Man Singh said that more tourists could be lured into the country through the Newari culture. He added that the arts, cultures, and heritages of the capital city have helped spread Nepal's identity to the outer world.

Similarly, the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Bidya Sundar Shakya said the Newari culture has a vital role to unite the diversified society.
