The Supreme Court during a hearing on the vacate request registered by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the chairperson of CPN UML, has summoned both the parties. The order was issued by a joint bench of Justices Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Hari Phuyal.
PM Oli had filed the request seeking an annulment of the apex court’s order to reinstate the four CPN UML lawmakers of Karnali Province who had crossed the floor to vote for the opposition.
Earlier, the organising committee for the CPN UML’s 10th general convention had expelled Prakash Jwala, Nanda Singh Buda, Amar Bahadur Shahi and Kurma raj Shahi from the party. The lawmakers were expelled because they had voted in favour of Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi of CPN (Maoist Centre).
The four lawmakers had filed a writ petition against their expulsion stating that the organising committee of the general convention did not have the authority to do so. The Supreme Court had issued a verdict stating that the action taken by the organising committee was not legal and had reinstated the four lawmakers.
