Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Vice-chairperson Bamdev Gautam has expressed his view that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli should tender his resignation since the Supreme Court termed his move to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR) unconstitutional.
Issuing a press statement today, he said the Supreme Court has protected the Constitution of Nepal achieved through the sacrifice of people, by delivering the verdict on the dissolution of the HoR on Tuesday. Hence, February 23 is a historically important day since the promulgation of the constitution of Nepal, the NCP vice-chair opined.
Upon the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, President Bidya Devi Bhandari on December 20 had approved the dissolution of the Federal Parliament.
NCP Vice-chair said, "This is a historical day that marks the defeat of autocracy and anarchy, and the re-conquest of the sovereignty of democratic republic and people."
Through the press statement, he also thanked Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana and other justices comprising the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court.
The NCP vice-chair has also suggested the president to welcome the verdict of the apex court and call for the session of the parliament.
NCP leader Gautam urged the party co-chairs — KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal — to hold the NCP secretariat meeting at the party headquarters in Dhumbarahi immediately, to save the party unity.
NCP leader Gautam who is also National Assembly (NA) member has launched a national campaign to save the party unity as the two-thirds majority party has been divided into two groups after the dissolution of HoR.
