Pokharel reappointed as Chief Minister of Lumbini

Shankar Pokharel has been reappointed as the chief minister of Lumbini Province.

Province Chief Dharmanath Yadav appointed Pokharel as the Chief Minister in accordance with Article 168 (1) of Constitution of Nepal.

Prior to this, Pokharel had submitted a list of majority of lawmakers from the Province to the Province Chief Yadav claiming majority on his side, Spokesperson of Province Chief Office Chiranjibi Poudel said in a statement.

Pokharel had resigned as chief minister of the province earlier today after the Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Centre) filed a no-confidence motion against him a few days back.

However, the CPN (UML), Lumbini Province, had proposed Pokharel as the candidate for chief minister from the party. A meeting of the CPN (UML) parliamentary party held in Butwal earlier today had agreed to propose party standing committee member Pokahrel again as the chief minister, according to party chief whip Bhumishwor Dhakal.

Dhakal had also said that the party will claim for the formation of a single majority government of the party and the (new) government will be formed in accordance with Article 168 (1) of the constitution.

The 81-member Lumbini Province Assembly has 41 members from the CPN (UML), 19 from Nepali Congress, 17 from the CPN (Maoist Centre), two from Janata Samajbadi Party and one from Janamorcha Nepal.
