Speaker of the dissolved House of Representatives, Agni Prasad Sapkota on Friday filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding an annulment to political appointments in constitutional commissions.
The defendants in the writ petition are the Office of President, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and the Constitutional Council Secretariat.
The petition demands an interim order from the court not to implement or put implementation on hold relating to the appointments as it would be unconstitutional, against laws, country, people and the state.
Meanwhile, the apex court has sought a response in writing to the appointments, issuing a show-cause order to the government in this regard. A single bench of Justice Kumar Regmi issued the order to this effect.
During a preliminary hearing on a writ petition against the appointments to 34 positions in constitutional bodies filed by senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi, the court has sought a response in writing from the Office of President, the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and the Constitutional Council.
