Facebook says, Thursday, May 27, it will no longer remove claims that COVID-19 is man-made or manufactured from its apps. The change comes “in light of ongoing investigations into the origin of COVID-19 and in consultation with public health experts,” Facebook said. Photo: AP

Francis Haugan, a former Facebook employee, has told US lawmakers that Facebook's websites and apps are harming children and undermining democracy by increasing divisions.

Despite all the information in this regard, the senior employees of the company have given priority to profits, she said.

Haugan, 37, who worked as a product manager for Facebook, is said to have leaked the company's secrets. She has spoken out on Capitol Hill, the US House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, Facebook has defended itself by responding to Haugan. But she acknowledged in a statement that it was time to introduce more sophisticated rules on the Internet. During Tuesday's hearing, Republicans and Democrats argued that the company needed to change.
