Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale has said that a 'calibration flight' will be held at Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa on February 21.

After inspecting the Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa this afternoon, he said, "If the weather allows, there will be a calibration flight on February 21 and an international flight on Buddha Jayanti." The technician said that the flight should not be done when the visibility is low.

Minister Ale also instructed the ministry, CAN, project officials and team members to work hard day and night until there is no delay and no calibration flight. He said, "Under no circumstances should the work be stopped under any pretext."

Pointing to Congress leader Bharat Kumar Shah, who was nearby, Minister Ale said, “The chairman of the Public Accounts Committee is here, honorable Pramod Yadav is here. Honorable Ghanshyam Bhusal of this constituency asks every day, the Prime Minister & all other ministers are interested, he will say that there should be a quick flight at the airport. We are preparing accordingly.”

Chairman of the Accounts Committee Bharat Kumar Shah and MP Pramod Kumar Yadav urged to prepare the flight by checking the equipment quickly. Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Maheshwor Neupane, said that the test flight will be conducted by 330 of Nepal Airlines.

Bijendra Shrestha, Nepal representative of AeroThai, said, “Looking at the weather here for three years, you can fly in VOFR. Calibration flight requires clear weather. At least 5 km visibility is required. The plane is scheduled to land in Bhairahawa on February 21. Under no circumstances should it be later than February 21.”

So far, Rs 7.5 billion has been invested in the construction of Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa by ICP 1 & 2.
