A train that has been named in honour of former British Gorkha soldier, Tul Bahadur Pun, has come into operation in London. The Great Western Railway, which operates train services in the United Kingdom, had last year mentioned that a train would be named to honour Pun, who was a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest military award that is conferred by the British government.

A special ceremony was organised to start the train at Paddington Station in London. The inauguration that started at 10 am was also attended by Joanna Lumley, who has been fighting since long for the welfare of the retired British Gurkha soldiers.

Pun received the Victoria Cross for his services during the Second World War. The railway service named the train in honour of Pun on Wednesday, which was the 75th anniversary of him being awarded the Victoria Cross. Pun received the award when he was only 21 years old. He passed away in 2011.
