As a cyclone has slammed southern Brazil, at least 21 people have died and hundreds more have been displaced due to floods in numerous cities.

Pledging to "rebuild" Brazil "with the people" ,Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was sworn in as president defeating far-right incumbent Jair Bolsonaro in the tightest presidential race in decades.

Brazil's Lula da Silva emerged as the country's new president on Sunday after he defeated incumbent president Jair Bolsonaro in a fierce voting which was a tight race between the two politicians, CNN reported.
