As Dashain comes near, people are seen rushing towards shops to buy new items for the festival. This time of the year is the peak moment for businesses, especially clothing, to prosper.

However, business for boutiques seems to be running slow this festive season.

The manager of Oodni Boutique, Kupondole says, “The festive season did not make much difference in sales this year. "

“Lots of people gave orders for custom-made ethnic wear for the festivals”, said Narayan Khadka, owner of Amazing Grace Boutique, Teku. “However with the lockdowns and quarantine, people were forced to celebrate the festivals at home. That is one of the main reasons why orders have decreased”, he added.

Many boutiques like these faced a drastic change in sales during the festive season for the last two years. “We are getting about 4-5 orders per day”, says the manager of Oodni. “This is nothing compared to what it was like before the pandemic”, he adds.

Khadka adds “The amount of orders we are receiving right now is similar to what we receive on regular days. Business is no different even with the festive season here”.

The boutique owners have no expectation for sales to go any higher than this festive season. “People have already started to leave the valley. I do not expect any increase in orders now,” says the manager of Oodni.
