The National Information Commission has submitted its annual report for the fiscal year to the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. The annual report involving the main activities carried out in the report has been submitted to Prime Minister Deuba today for submission to the Legislature-Parliament.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Deuba said that the establishment of the commission has helped in maintaining good governance and stressed on the need to develop the capacity of the commission and be sensitive to information of serious nature related to national security. Presenting the report, Chief Information Commissioner of the Commission, Mahendra Man Gurung, said that the Commission was committed to the implementation of the important fundamental right provided by the Constitution and the annual report included the work done by the Commission for the fiscal year.
He also mentioned the suggestions made by the commission. Secretary of the Commission Bhagirath Pandey clarified that the annual report of the Commission has been submitted to the Prime Minister as per the provisions of the Right to Information Act.
Commissioners Kamala Oli Thapa and Ratna Prasad Mainali, Chief Secretary to the Government of Nepal Shankar Das Bairagi and others were present on the occasion. During this period, the Commission received 753 appeals for non-receipt of information from public bodies as per Section 10 of the Right to Information Act.
The highest percentage of such appeals were related to local level, 73 percent related to education, health and sports, 7 percent related to economic sector, 4 percent related to law, justice and administration.
It is mentioned in the report that the appellate commission received 98.7 percent. The Commission has conducted district level interaction program on Right to Information in six districts namely Kailali, Sindhupalchowk, Parsa, Kanchanpur, Darchula and Doti.
