Ajav Singh Khadka of Khalla Goth in Krishnapur Municipality-2 has been advancing the traditional profession started from his ancestors. The 71-year-old Khadka has been handling the dabo yarn made by his father and grandfather. He migrated from Dadeldhura's Amgargadhi Municipality-6 Chhochoda two decades ago and has been making dubo yarn.

According to the culture of the far west, in Gauraparva, women wear dubodhago just like men. Dubodhagao is called Saptamya (thread of seven threads) in Dharmashastra. Since it is not possible to be pure only through marriage rites, it is customary for women to wear dubo thread. On the seventh day of the Gaura festival, after Gaura is brought into the Gaura house, the women offer and wear dubo thread. Khadka has been active in making dubo yarn for six decades.

"The only source of income for the entire villagers of Chhoda was to make dubo yarn and sell it," said Khadka.

We used to buy dubo yarn and buy grain for the whole year. Even the clothes used to be made from it. Currently, young people are giving up the task of making dubo yarn.

Even in the mountains, few make dubo yarn. He says that he learned to make dubo yarn from his father when he was thirteen years old. He proudly says that he has been carrying on this profession even in the Terai. He buys and brings 50 kg of yarn from New Delhi, India for one year. You make dubo yarn by dyeing the yarn yellow, red and black. Even colors are imported from India.

He earns around Rs. 700 daily by making and selling dubo yarn. Traders from Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Kailali and Kanchanpur buy dubo yarn in bulk.

Khadka said that he has been managing the expenses of a family of nine easily by making dubo yarn. "I have been able to manage my family's expenses easily by making dubo yarn. From this profession he married five sons and two daughters. Run household expenses. I have been running. I have never had to reach out to anyone else for money, "he said." The sons are eating in their own way. Old people, we are sitting and eating with the money we have sold. We are wearing it. ”

Khadka himself travels to New Delhi to fetch the yarn and the dye. He says that Indians in Delhi respect him as he is a customer of old yarn.

As the date of birth is not written in the citizenship according to the date of birth, even though he has reached the age of 71, he is deprived of the amount of security allowance for the senior citizen. He says, “Customs has been levying more on dubbing yarn. If the government had waived that, this profession could have been carried forward easily. ”

Dubodhago made by mixing red, yellow and black thread is offered to Gauradevi, anointed and worn on the seventh day of Gauraparva. It is customary for some to wear dubo thread on the day of Ashtami after worshiping Shiva Parvati at Gaura Khala. It is customary to worship and wear new dubo thread every year.
