The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index increased quite considerably today, the first trading day of the week. The benchmark index expanded by 74.71 points to close the day at 2,899.82 points. On Thursday, the last trading day of the previous week, the Nepse index had risen by 23.97 points to close the week at 2,825.10 points.
The sensitive index too witnessed a rise of 2.6 per cent or 13.77 points to rest at 543.43 points while the float index expanded by 2.93 per cent or 5.74 points to 201.17 points. Today, a total of 31,588,850 shares of 225 listed firms exchanged hands at the country’s sole secondary market through 82,049 transactions.
The daily turnover too crossed the Rs 8-billion mark today.
All the subgroups at Nepal Stock Exchange witnessed gains today. The biggest gainer of the day was the finance sub-index which increased by 8.37 per cent or 181.26 points to land at 2,346.59 points. Closely following the finance subgroup was the development banks sub-index that expanded by 8.29 per cent or 357.5 points to rest at 4,669.41 points.
