Police on Monday arrested an absconding man who allegedly involved in human trafficking 28 years ago.
The arrestee has been identified as Ramsharan Pandit Chhetri (68) of Jitpur in Changunarayan Municipality-8 of Bhaktapur district.
According to police Chhetri had enticed two poor women to go to Mumbai in India by offering Rs 6,000 to each saying that they could carry diamonds from there to Nepal evading police. Subsequently, Chhetri took them to the operators of brothels in Mumbai and handed them over in exchange for money.
The human trafficking victims were rescued with the help of Mumbai police and were sent back to Nepal.
Thereafter, on August 28, 1992, they lodged a complaint with Kathmandu District Police Office implicating Chhetri for trafficking them to India. Since then, Chhetri had been on the run.
A team of security personnel deployed from the Anti Human Trafficking Bureau, Babarmahal arrested Chhetri.
Meanwhile, investigation into the case is under, police informed.
