Until 10 days ago, there were only 2 patients in the ICU of Shukraraj Tropical and Communicable Diseases Hospital in Teku, Kathmandu due to coronavirus infection. However, that number has risen to eight now.
Admissions to the ICU as a result of COVID infections have been rising. The number of critically ill patients has been steadily rising for the past week. More than 35 percent of them have not been vaccinated.
According to the hospital administration, 11 infected people are being treated in isolation. Most of the infected people have symptoms of diarrhea.
"Because of the growing cold, the patients may have diarrhea-related problems," Dr. Manishha Rawal, the hospital director said, "But now there are some different symptoms."
As per the hospital statistics, most of those admitted to the hospital are unvaccinated. "People who have been vaccinated have also been admitted. However, there are many who do not get vaccinated. This has led to further complications in their health," said Dr. Rawal.
Stating that the danger has increased in Nepal as the new variant of Coronavirus, Omicron, is spreading in India, she suggested that the standards of public health should be followed and vaccination should be made accessible to all.
