Gold worth Rs 31 billion smuggled by hiding in electronic devices, brake shoes

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police said that gold worth more than Rs 31 billion was smuggled into the country by hiding in electronic devices and brake shoe.

The police said that five fake firms are involved in the gold smuggling as revealed in the investigation process of the 60.71 kgs of gold which was brought by hiding in brake shoe from the Tribhuvan International Airport around a year ago.

Organizing a news conference today, Chief of CIB Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police Shyamlal Gyawali shared that an additional 20 individuals have been arrested for the investigation process.

On the occasion, AIG Gyawali said that 2,831.89 kgs of gold was smuggled by hiding in electronic devices from five different fake companies and 362.77 kgs of gold in the brake shoes.

According to Gyawali, Bhujel Electrics Suppliers Pvt, Hwada Electrical Suppliers, Chungak Electric Suppliers, Dolakha Electric Suppliers and Rady Trade Pvt are involved in the smuggling of gold into Nepal. Earlier, 362.77 kgs of gold was imported to Nepal through the brake shoes.

Likewise, two payment gateway companies are also involved in the payment process for the illegally imported goods.

AIG Gyawali said that the amount was deposited in the accounts of Paywell Nepal Pvt Ltd and Sajilo Payment Services Pvt Ltd and then the payment was made for the illegally imported gold through the agents.
