Newly appointed Minister for Communications and Information Technology Basanta Kumar Nembang has reaffirmed the commitment of the government to render services to the public promptly despite the lack of House of Representatives.

Assuming the office Friday, Minister Nembang argued that the State could not stay silent and idle at the time when there was no parliament. The country has been going through a tough phase, he said, adding that the government had accomplished various popular projects in three years.

According to him, the dissolution of the House of Representatives recommended by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was a compulsive move to make headway for the fresh mandate.

Admitting that the government had not been able to deliver as per its action plan due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minister claimed that the incumbent government had not shrunk from its duties and responsibilities at the time of a health crisis like this. He said the government was effortful to resolve the issues emanating from the natural disasters and to make vaccination drive against COVID-19 a success.

Nembang also claimed that the government had not budged an inch away in shouldering its responsibilities such as maintaining law and order and ensuring all the citizens quality healthcare among others.

The Minister underscored the need for disseminating the right information and streamlining the communication services and spoke of the need to regulate those media disseminating disinformation.

Underscoring the need to expand the service of communications in the rural parts of the countries, he said that all the pending works and backlogs of the Ministry should be carried out with the new leadership in the Ministry.

He also urged the state-owned agencies and private media houses to make sure that they disseminate the right information.

On the occasion, Ministry Secretary Hari Prasad Basyal shared that preparation was afoot to broadcast the ‘NTV WORLD’ to educate foreigners about Nepal.

He also informed that coordination was being made with the Ministry of Finance to provide an adequate budget to the state-owned agencies -Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) and Gorkhapatra Corporation- for the construction of physical infrastructures.

Present on the occasion were Chairperson of RSS Harihar Adhikari ‘Shyamal’, RSS’ newly appointed General Manager Siddha Raj Rai, Gorkhapatra Corporation’s Executive Chairperson Krishna Murari Bhandari, Nepal Television Chairperson Dr Mahendra Bista, Minimum Wage Fixation Committee Chairperson Rajendra Aryal and Film Development Board’s Chairperson Dayaram Dahal and the staffers at the Ministry.
