Govt. serious on doctors' safety: PM Dahal

 Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said government was serious toward safety, interest and career development of doctors and health workers who are devoted to people's service.

Addressing the 4th convocation ceremony of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) here Thursday, PM Dahal said he had taken serious note of the series of attacks on health workers, including doctors. "Government is doing homework for legal measures to address the problems after holding discussion with medical persons," he said, reiterating government's commitment to curb untoward activities against this sensitive sector.

He urged all doctors and health workers to remain active in their profession with confidence and trust. Government is for augmenting investment in the health sector and ensure jobs to the human resources within the country, according to him.

PM Dahal also reminded that citizen's right to health must be realized. "All sides concerned should deliver to ensure rights and opportunities to poor, destitute and backward communities," he stressed.

Moreover, the PM shared that NAMS was established to produce qualified human resources for higher study and research on medical sciences and provide reasonable and quality health service to the citizens.

"Bir Hospital is one of the oldest and biggest hospitals in Nepal. Similarly, operation of National Trauma Centre and Nursing Campus and Institute in the Kathmandu Valley and similar health facilities and academies expanded outside the valley for higher education on medical study and health facilities show that Nepal has taken qualitative and quantitative stride in health service and medical education," PM Dahal expressed happiness.

Also the Chancellor of NAMS, PM Dahal vowed additional investment from the government to expand and better equip Bir Hospital.

He also shared information that a total of 3,523 hospital beds were available free of cost for the poor and helpless people across the country.

On the occasion, 541 medical graduates and post graduates combined from NAMS were ordained at the ceremony.
