Govt to set new standard on sports: PM Dahal

 Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has said government would set a new standard in Nepali sports with some positive developments.

Addressing the 60th anniversary of the National Sports Council (NSC) on Wednesday, PM Dahal viewed, "I believe a new standard would be set in Nepali sports. I wish NSC achieved success to this regard."

PM Dahal further viewed sports bear huge potential in Nepal. Government has given special attention to sport, which is not only essential for mental and physical development of an individual but holistic development of the country, he reminded.

"Through sports diplomacy, cooperation, global unity and reconciliation are made possible in world history," PM Dahal shared, adding that economic progress also warrants sports development. The PM reiterated that he had given adequate attention to sports, literature, art and technology. Effective implementation of policies relating to sports and institutional development are also paid attention, according to him.

"Government is at work to ensure effective role of State for more investment in sports along with prize, incentive, career promotion and dignity of players," he stated.

The PM also recollected that Nepal had done well in the 19th Asian Games held in China. Achievement of international medals boost confidence among players, he said.

Stadiums were constructed at Pokhara, Beljhundi and Chyasal, while similar others were under construction in Mulpani, Bharatpur and Biratnagar, the PM informed.

The PM lauded that achievements in sports sector has inspired entire country.

Also speaking on the occasion were Minister for Youth and Sports, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, and NSC Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising.
