NCP leader Jhakri released from police custody

Central committee member of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Dahal-Nepal faction, Ram Kumari Jhakri has been released from police custody after general inquiry.

Jhakri was accused of insulting President Bidya Devi Bhandari during her speech in Gorkha district. Police had held her to investigate in this connection.

Duty officer at the Metropolitan Crime Division (MCD) informed that Jhakri was released at around 6:30 pm.

Spokesperson at National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Tikaram Pokharel said that a team from the commission had visited the MCD and met with the arrestee and the police officers who were interrogating her. Pokharel said police found the NCP leader Jhakri was not guilty of threatening the president and the parliament. 

Earlier, an arrest warrant was issued against Jhakri mentioning Section 58 of the Criminal Code. She was held from her residence in Sankamul, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-31.

All Nepal Women Association, a sister wing of ruling NCP, had submitted a memorandum to the government, demanding action against leader Jhakri.
