The Office of the Attorney General has said that wrong information regarding the ordinance issued on the amendment of the Citizenship Act is being published at the moment. It has said the ordinance that has been issued is in line with the Constitution of Nepal and has followed the directives of the Supreme Court.
Padam Prasad Pandey, Deputy Attorney General said, the ordinance was introduced since some laws have not been enacted to fully implement the provisions in the Constitution.
He further mentioned that people who do not know the provisions in the Constitution are spreading the wrong information. Pandey added that even people who are aware of the provisions are spreading incorrect information to fulfil their own interests.
Meanwhile, Maheshwor Neupane, Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, said that the ordinance had included issues that had already been finalised by the various parliamentary committees. He informed that the ordinance was necessary as the Act had not been finalised by the Parliament for a long time and applications submitted by people who were born in Nepal but had not received their citizenships had been piling up.
