In an age with declining interest in classical music and instruments more so in women, Sita Bhandari, a Gaurgahat resident, emerges as one trying to preserve and help increase the number and love of the tabla alive among the young women of the country. Currently there are only 8 known Nepalese women who play the tabla professionally.

Sita Bhandari has dedicated her entire life to the Tabla, earning a fair compensation for any gigs she is invited to play at through which she runs her livelihood. Starting from the young age of 10, Bhandari practiced and still practices the tabla every morning and evening. She also teaches the tabla, currently a teacher of 14 students who learn the tabla at her own home of which she provides scholarships to the financially weak. Along with nurturing local talents, she also teaches the tabla internationally to the United States of America through virtual means, being invited to the youth festival at North Carolina USA to play the tabla.

Amidst the lockdown she and her father virtually performed hymns on the tabla daily for 2 hours to an American audience. Currently she is visiting the LaxmanNarayan temple at Chiratpur in Bhaktapur to watch tabla for the senior citizens, mostly pensioners and retirees. She also spends her free time writing her book on the tabla.

The co-founder of the Achutaram Bhandari Foundation, named after her father, she aims to create a livelihood source for the poor and destitute by teaching them to play music through this foundation. Women such as Bhandari are a beacon of goodwill and a trailblazer for other women to follow in her footsteps.
