In Pictures: The connection of Tihar and flowers

As Tihar is coming near, we can see gardens filled with flowers like Marigold (Sayapatri) and Globe amaranth (Makhamali).

Deepak Parajuli, one of the local people, said, “these flowers were planted 3 months before the festival of lights and now soon would be ready to pick up”. Most of the locals from Darmasthali, Kathmandu grow their own flowers in their field, he explained.

Marigolds and Amaranths are very important during the pujas like Kukur Tihar (day for dogs), Laxmi Puja and also Bhaitika (the day for brothers) for this festival. Garlands of Marigold ( Sayapatri) are also used for decoration purposes in households for Laxmi puja.
