Flooding affected more than 6,000 people in July in Afghanistan, killing at least 40 people, destroying farmlands and severely impacting livelihoods, said a report released Monday by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is highly prone to natural hazards. In July, 551 houses were damaged and 121 others destroyed, it added.

The report also noted that by the end of July, 29.2 million people, including 15.8 million children, across the country are in need of humanitarian assistance.

As international organizations are still facing a funding crisis in Afghanistan, the organization said in its report that its Humanitarian Action for Children appeal was 48 percent funded as of July 31.
